Custom Model Cars: What's Your Style?

A custom model car is any vehicle that has been specifically built or "customized" by an individual or a company. So, when did it start? Well, the first person who certainly went about like Oh, ought to make a little model of that car that s sitting out door? Any guesses? Probably the custom model cars first started appearing in 1930, but really did not gain widespread popularity until after 1950, making sense since most cars became very mainstream in that time period.

What exactly is so cool about custom model cars? They are cars that have been uniquely customized by the person (or company) who made them. They are almost always a reflection of their personalities, but often have also had some sort of connection or inspiration with a specific person, place, or even event. The end result is a work of art that has been lovingly and creatively completed by an artist, craftsman or designer. That means that if you are looking for a custom model car you are going to find one that was created by someone (or some company) who really cares about the product they are selling. Often times artists who specialize in this field have a "shop" where they go to handcraft each model car to exacting standards and then deliver them to the public.

If we were going to take a quick look at the beginnings of the custom model cars, we would first need to consider the styles that began to appear on roadways as the country grew into the industrial revolution. One of the most popular themes was that of the "hot wheels" custom model cars. These cars took the basic oval shape but crisscrossed and twisted to create something completely unique and desirable. Many of these cars had long racing strips along their sides, which helped to create a streamline look, while maintaining the circular curves of the wheels. There was a definite attraction to these cars for the amateur and professional alike.

Another type of custom model car did not resemble a car at all, but rather a mock motorcycle. This was most common on fairgrounds and race tracks and represented an entire division of the model car world. It was an incredible thing to behold, and the fact that the cars could be taken almost anywhere made them even more desirable.

Formula one car racing has continued to evolve over the years, and recently there has been a real effort to create a more "traditional" look. Some of the changes have been drastic, but many have been subtle. As more teams and drivers attempt to qualify for the Formula One World Championship, the modifications become more pronounced, until there are no recognizable cars any longer. For enthusiasts and long-time car fans, the classic image of a Formula one car is something that is hard to beat.

No matter what you like, there is a custom model car for you. Whether you want a stretched SUV or a sleek sports car, you can have one of your own. The next time you head out to the track, take a look at your favorite car, and you might just see something that will inspire you to make it your own. You don't have to own the actual car to enjoy having one of your very own.
